Irris Makler has been working as a freelance foreign correspondent, covering the war on terror that has dominated the past decade.

She was one of the first journalists into Afghanistan after 9/11. She filed extensively from Iraq since the American military offensive and from Israel/Palestine during the Second Intifada. She taught journalism in Pakistan and was also based in Moscow as bureau chief for ABC Australia. Irris began her reporting career at BBC-TV in London.

Her book about her time covering the Afghan war Our Woman in Kabul was an Australian best seller. Irris is currently writing another book. Before she became a journalist, Irris was a lawyer.
