Joanna Devane Trainer and Editor

JoannaJoanna Devane is an international multimedia journalist and award-winning broadcast producer/director.

From investigative current affairs to human-interest features, Joanna has produced thought-provoking television packages, series and documentary films for ABC, CNBC and CNN. Her work has taken her all over the world, from the sands of the Middle East to the glaciers of Iceland.

During the Ebola crisis in West Africa, Joanna was a Liberia-based producer for ABC News. In addition to daily news coverage, she and Carielle Doe produced the first feature-length digital documentary for ABC News Features — Mercy — which followed the survival journey of orphans of the outbreak.

Joanna has substantial experience in West Africa. She was Liberia country director of New Narratives from 2011-2012. While at CNBC, she single-handedly produced, directed, wrote and edited Outbound Africa, a documentary in collaboration with Concern Universal that explored the potential for business engagement and development in Ghana. The program aired on CNBC’s EMEA channel and became one of the network’s most repeated broadcasts. This endeavor sparked Joanna’s interest in West Africa and the opportunities to use journalism to promote far-reaching change.

Joanna holds a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University, where she graduated as one of the top three students in her class.
